Robert Graves had two wives throughout his lifetime - Nancy Nicholson and Beryl Hodge.
Nancy Nicholson was his first wife, whom he met in Oxford in 1914. She was a poet, sculptor, and translator and the couple had four children together. Despite their creative pursuits, the marriage was tumultuous and Graves had several affairs, including one with fellow poet Laura Riding. This eventually led to their separation and divorce in 1949.
Graves' second wife was Beryl Hodge, a nurse whom he met during a hospital stay in the late 1940s. They married in 1950 and had four children together. Their marriage was reportedly more stable than his first, lasting until Graves' death in 1985. Hodge assisted Graves in his writing and research and continued to support his literary legacy after his death.
